The Community Chest of Port Washington has selected George L. Williams as the 2017 Citizen of the Year, for his remarkable contributions to the Port Washington community. He will be honored at a ceremony to be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 7:00 p.m., at the Port Washington Public Library, in the Lapham Room. The Community Chest’s Citizen of the Year Award recognizes “a lifetime of outstanding volunteer service on behalf of the citizens of Port Washington” and has been awarded annually since 1969. The Citizen of the Year ceremony and reception are free and all members of the community are invited to attend.

In addition to his lifelong work in Landmarks Preservation and Port Washington’s historical legacy, George L. Williams was a Weber middle school teacher for nearly 40 years until his retirement in 1990. The Community Chest is collecting recollections of, tributes to and photos of Dr. Williams. The Community Chest has requested colleagues and former students send photos or letters to the Community Chest at info@portchest.org by April 19. The special keepsake will be presented to Dr. Williams at the April 24th ceremony.
