Composer's Night: Music of Emerging Artists at Sands Point Preserve

Solomon Hoffman to return June 16; Bobby Katz to perform with Grammy-nominated performer at Hempstead House July 21.

Continuing its tradition of supporting the arts, the Sands Point Preserve hosts two upcoming Composer’s Night performances, spotlighting local emerging musicians, in Hempstead House.

June 16 features the original works of Solomon Hoffman. For this concert, Hoffman pairs his music for flute with other classical and jazz compositions, exploring connections between music of different eras. Joining Hoffman are a range of talented musicians, including up-and-coming flutist Caroline Sonnett.

July 21 brings The Bobby Katz Quintet for a program of original compositions and jazz standards. Joining Katz, a tenor saxophonist, are Grammy-nominated trumpeter Michael Rodriguez, along with Manuel Schmiedel on piano, Adrian Moring on bass and Tim Rachbach on drums. The evening marks the premiere of Katz's "Still Searching Suite," a three-movement composition.

Composer’s Night is just one of many new cultural arts programs at the Preserve this season. On July 10 at 3 pm, Dance Visions NY performs works by Isadora Duncan, the legendary choreographer who created the foundation for modern dance in the same time period when the Gould-Guggenheim estate was formed. And the North Shore Music Festival presents “Madama Butterfly” on July 30 at 6 p.m.; the evening includes dinner and spans both Hempstead House and Castle Gould for a new experience at the Preserve.
