Cops Nab East Hills Burglar Who Escaped Police Custody: Police
The man was arrested six months after the incident occurred, police say.

Authorities arrested a Huntington man Friday who is accused of escaping police custody after he was caught burglarizing an East Hills home in December.
On Saturday, Dec. 5, Rony Compere, 43, escaped police custody after officers found him hiding on the floor in one of the bedrooms of a Wildwood Lane home at 4:52 p.m., according to authorities.
Police responded to the location after they received a call for a residential alarm and arrived to the home to find that the rear door of the house was open.

Officers attempted to put Compere into custody, but he resisted arrest and attempted to take one officer’s service weapon, police said.
Compere broke free and fled the home after a continued struggle, police said. Both officers suffered non-life threatening injuries and one had to be taken to an area hospital for treatment.
