Customers Medically Reliant on Water Are Prioritized During Emergencies
Water District Updates Emergency Plan Plan Enables Water District to Prioritize Those with Medical Conditions During Service Interruptions

The Port Washington Water District’s Board of Commissioners is actively working on updating its emergency plan to increase resiliency and improve service reliability to its most in-need customers. One of the exercise’s primary tasks is updating the District’s records relating to consumers who require potable water as a medical necessity.
“The most important part of updating our emergency plan is ensuring that when emergency situations occur, the District is better equipped to service our customers who rely on running water for a medical purpose,” said David Brackett, Chairman of the PWWD Board of Commissioners. “While we all enjoy seamless access to clean running water, there are members of our community that could experience a detrimental impact to their health if their water supply is interrupted. This exercise will allow us to collect the necessary information from our most vulnerable customers so we are best equipped to notify and serve them in an expeditious manner.”
Customers with certain medical conditions—for example, kidney dialyses patients—generally require an uninterrupted supply of potable water for the treatment of their medical condition. Consumers with documented medical conditions, who are on file with the District, will be prioritized for notification and service restoration during an emergency situation.
