Meehan's resignation letter was issued nearly a week before the village issued a letter, signed by DiLeo, to AG Towers, imploring it to find a suitable alternative location for a controversial cell tower. Meehan has stated in the past that had he had been mayor at the time of its consideration, he would a tower in the residential neighborhood of Manhasset Isle.
