Driver Killed After Parked Truck Rolls Forward in East Hills

A Highway Patrol Officer discovered the man pinned under the truck on the side of the Long Island Expressway.

A man was killed Thursday night after police said his tractor trailer suddenly moved forward and pinned him to the ground on the side of the Long Island Expressway.

According to authorities, a Highway Patrol Officer went to check on a tractor trailer that was parked on the westbound shoulder of the LIE, between Exits 33 and 34 in East Hills, with its hazard lights on at 8:22 p.m.

The officer then discovered the driver, identified as 54-year-old Roosevelt resident Frederick E. Johnson, pinned under the vehicle and unresponsive. Johnson was pronounced dead by a Nassau County Police Medic at 8:45 p.m.

An investigation revealed that the parked truck suddenly moved forward, fatally pinning Johnson to the ground, police say.

The Nassau County Motor Carrier Unit responded and performed a brake and safety check at the scene. Police do not suspect any foul play. The investigation is ongoing.
