“250 Years of Consumer Products” Fred Blumlein Speaks at the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society

With the holidays just about here, thoughts of gift giving abound.  In stores and on-line, millions of products will be available for us to purchase and share. Have you ever wondered how this vast array of objects that so often change our lives came into being? A major part of the story occurred 250 years ago and started a chain of events that has led us from cast-iron pots to iPods.

To help answer this question, The Cow Neck Peninsula Society's President, Fred Blumlein, will present "250 Years of Consumer Products" at the society's headquarters on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Blumlein started his career working with industrial designer George Nelson on the development of consumer products and exhibitions for the United States Department of Commerce. He is a faculty member of the Graduate Industrial Design Department at Pratt Institute and has been influential in the development of exhibitions for museums and corporations. Among many other venues, he has conceived and implemented installations for MOMA, Lincoln Center, EPCOT Center, Cirque Du Soleil, Universal Studios, the Nassau County Firefighters and the Cradle of Aviation Museum.
