Become a Bee Whisperer - and explore the wonder of honeybees through hands-on demonstrations at the new beehives located at the Sands Point Preserve. Attend one or all sessions - and begin any time.
Under the direction of Professor Patrick J. Gannon, PhD, the Chair of Science Education at Hofstra North Shore - LIJ School of Medicine, this program introduces participants age six and older to the biology and anatomy of three types of honeybees that comprise a colony. Discover how the design of the beehive and the well-defined roles of each and every member of the colony enable this fascinating species to survive through four seasons. Observe how the main resources - pollen, propolis, and honey - are collected, managed, and utilized as you develop the special skills to enter the complex world within the beehive.

Participants must be six years old and up. Please dress appropriately: long pants, long sleeves, gloves, hats, closed shoes and socks are all recommended. Do not wear cologne or perfume, and long hair should be tied up and away from the face. Individuals who are allergic to bees should plan to observe from a safe distance.
