Film: The Tempest

As part of our ongoing Shakespeare celebration, John Bosco will screen and discuss The Tempest (2010-110 min.). Magician Prospera (Helen Mirren) lives in exile on an island with her innocent daughter Miranda (Felicity Jones), the sprite Ariel (Ben Whishaw) and the monster Caliban (Djimon Hounsou). Their lives are disrupted by the arrival of Prospera’s scheming brother Antonio (Chris Cooper), his henchman Sebastian (Alan Cumming), Gonzalo the advisor (Tom Conti), Trinculo the fool (Russell Brand), drunken butler Stephano (Alfred Molina), stately King Alonso (David Strathairn) and his son, Prince Ferdinand (Reeve Carney) — who takes a shine to Miranda. Producer/director Julie Taymor also scripted this adaptation of Shakespeare’s final play.
