Port’s own George Vecsey, the renowned sportswriter and author, will speak on his new book Stan Musial: An American Life. In particular, Vecsey will discuss what he has learned about Musial, the Hall of Fame baseball player, since the book came out. “As far as I was concerned, as a writer who has done many books, my research was done in the final hectic days when I made electronic revisions to my biography of a great baseball player of my youth. But to my surprise, I kept learning about him -- no dark secrets, but volunteered insights from people that changed my perspective about Musial, the place of baseball, regional differences, and even about my relationship with America,” Vecsey explains. Plus, he added, he will mention “a few words here and there that I wish I could do over.”
