Historical Society Country Fair

This year, the Cow Neck Historical Society celebrates its 50th Anniversary on Saturday, September 22, 2012 (rain date: September 23) with a Country Fair.  You can go back in time and tour the iconic Sands-Willets House, one of Port Washington’s enduring historic sites (ca. 1738), participate in early American games, get friendly with the same kinds of barnyard animals that lived in colonial times, ride a pony and watch demonstrations of fly tying and spinning, and talk to wool felters and soap makers.

And of course there will be music and performances taking place all day, face painters and Civil War re-enactors.  Johnny Appleseed will be on hand to tell children’s stories and we’ll have a real fire engine to explore.  The Society will open its newest exhibition on Port Washington’s oldest dwelling, the Dodge Homestead (ca. 1721), curated
by trustee Fred Blumlein.

You can browse among reconditioned jewelry, home-made crafts, used books, and our basement “Trash & Treasures”
boutique.  And then you might like to take home a home-made apple pie, or some honey produced by the bees at the Dodge Homestead.  Refreshments will be available to soothe your hunger and slake your thirst.
