
SANDWICHED IN: Understanding El Greco. El Greco’s paintings are difficult to understand — at times, even his contemporaries found his art a bit of a puzzlement. Modern scholars find it so original that they cannot associate him completely with any conventional art movement. During this illustrated talk, Ines Powell will try to identify what makes El Greco’s work so unique. We will learn about the artist’s beginnings in Crete, his training years in Italy and his maturity in Spain.
