“The Gold Coast Estates of Port Washington and Sands Point”

Have you ever wondered about the world of the large estates that dotted the Cow Neck peninsula?  On Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 7:30 pm, Paul Mateyunas, author of the book "North Shore Long Island: Country Houses, 1890-1950" will speak at the Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society on the Gold Coast estates of Port Washington and Sands Point.  He will discuss his research into a world that no longer exists…the people, their lavish homes, the parties, the sporting events and those who worked in the service of their wealthy employers.

Paul J. Mateyunas, a native of Long Island's North Shore, has been fascinated by the architecture of Long Island since his early youth. Schooled in the arts in the United States and Italy, Paul holds degrees in art history and business.  His interest in historical preservation has led him to work as a restoration consultant. As a real estate agent for Daniel Gale Sotheby's International of Locust Valley, Paul specializes in assisting his customers to buy and sell old estates.  In addition to writing "North Shore Long Island: Country Houses 1890-1950," he is an architectural writer for Elements Magazine.  Paul has also curated several exhibitions on the subject.

@homeLI said about "North Shore Long Island: Country Houses 1890-1950:"  "Mateyunas is able to recreate a stroll through each home by way of descriptions and their majestic features, impeccable materials and craftsmanship, works of art and furnishings..."  Copies of his book will be available for sale and signing by the author.
