A look at controversial subjects in the news with Rabbi Zeplowitz. This Sunday the discussion will focus on the debate raised by radio host Rush Limbaugh calling a young woman who testified in Congress a "slut". How have Jewish sources understood the sexual role of women in the past - and why have strong women sometimes been honored and, at times, been castigated? We will also discuss whether or not it matters how others label us. Is the word "slut" so degrading as to be outside the bounds of proper discourse - and if so, why; if not, when is it appropriate to use? What should we be teaching our children and grandchildren about the use of language, and its relationship to our sexuality? We will examine Jewish sources on these topics and discuss various factors that lead to the controversy this past week.
This will be the final session of this series this year.
