First Graders Get A Jump On Coding With Ozobots

Computer Science week was celebrated by Mandalay Elementary students taking part in Code.org's Hour of Code by using Ozobots.

WANTAGH—Students at Mandalay Elementary School in Wantagh learned how to use Ozobots as part of Code.org’s Hour of Code in celebration of Computer Science Week, which runs from Dec. 7-12.

Ozobots, toy-sized computers that can identify lines, colors and codes on digital and physical surfaces, contain an ease of use that is helpful to young students who are learning about computer programming and coding, according to a Wantagh School District news release. During the lesson, the students, who are in Arlene Berman’s class, learned to turn the Ozobot on and off and then determined how to create a just-right line for their Ozobots to follow.

As the students became more comfortable making lines and shapes, their goal was to create a path for their Ozobot to travel and arrive at school.
