Flower Hill: New Property Maintenance Laws
Laws passed to prevent pesticides and runoff in the village.
New laws were passed to ensure effective drainage in Flower Hill at the village's July 6 Board of Trustee meeting.
Robert Rockelein, code inspector for the Village of Flower Hill said that the local laws entitled "Property Maintenance" and "Streets and Sidewalks" were passed so the village is proactive about these issues, not reactive.
"We adopted these laws also because other associated areas are doing so, and we want to close the loophole involving federal and state county and storm water regulations," Rockelein said. "We want to prevent pesticides and runoff in the streets throughout the Village of Flower Hill, including areas of Port Washington."

Mayor Charles W. Weiss elaborated. "This means that roof drains, sump pumps, air-conditioning drains and overflow pipes shall channel water off or out of a building, pool or other property within the village and it has to be maintained in a safe and operable condition and cannot drain into the streets or adjoining property or the public sewer system," Weiss said.
Village of Flower Hills next Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for August 2 at 8 p.m.
