Flowers in February

Artists bloom at Art Guild of Port Washington weekend workshop.

The Art Guild of Port Washington at Elderfields Preserve held a weekend workshop aptly named "Flowers in February."

Art students came with their easels, paints, pastels and imaginations to contemplate the beauty of magnificent live flowers and get coaching and individual critiques from an expert instructor, Shelli Robiner-Ardizzone.

"I encourage artists to touch and smell the flowers and study their anatomy," Robiner-Ardizzone said. "Observation is key. Flowers are transient and will wilt. They are best enjoyed when fresh."

Many of the students are accomplished artists who exhibit their work and win awards. They brought the flowers to life on their canvas in a style all their own.

A work of art is a world in itself reflecting the senses and emotions of the artists world. –  Abstract Painter Hans Hoffman
