On Sunday, September 14 at 3 p.m., the Friends of the Library (FOL) presents a special music event in memory of its longtime board member and past president, Beverly Halm.
“This is Ragtime” will feature Terry Waldo, considered one of America’s premier performers and presenters of ragtime and early jazz. Known for his virtuoso ragtime and stride piano playing, charming vocals, and disarming wit, he is the protégé‚ of the legendary Eubie Blake, who called Waldo “an extension of my own musical self.” He has performed in concerts worldwide and recently appeared with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall where he performed the world premier of his composition, “The Eubie Blake Concerto.”

It is a program that would have been treasured by Bev Halm, who passed away May 4, said FOL president Amy Bass. Beverly Halm was a beloved personality in the library, and a frequent presence at Sandwiched In programs, concerts and artist receptions. She was a longstanding board member and former president of the Friends, and was honored with the Friends of the Library Award in 2011.
Bev was an active member of the Port Washington community for over 40 years and was involved in numerous community organizations. In her honor and in her memory, the FOL is proud to present and dedicate this program to Bev.

“She would have enjoyed it from her front row seat,” Amy Bass said. “Beverly Halm represented what the Friends is all about — linking the library to the community with warmth, conscientiousness and intelligence.”
