East and West Egg will get the international spotlight on May 15 when Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby” opens the Cannes Film Festival.
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, “Gatsby” was not shot in Sands Point or Kings Point, said to be Fitzgerald’s inspiration for the setting of the famed novel. Instead, it was shot in Sydney, Australia.
Lurhmann praised his Austrailian crew “who worked so hard and so passionately through a period of extraordinary weather,” proving, he told The Sydney Morning Herald, that the team could create “Long Island in 1922.”

When asked about it at the time, Maroboli would say only, “I have many clients. Some have the misfortune of leaving when there’s traffic on Main Street.”
And in October, the Port Washington swim team spotted DiCaprio, along with Matthew McConaughey and Jonah Hill, filming Martin Scorsese’s “Wolf of Wall Street” at the Port Washington Yacht Club.
, “Gatsby” is now expected to hit the big screen in the United States on May 10.
