Honoring Extraordinary People

Residents Forward chose three extraordinary individuals to honor at its annual gala on March 13.

While thousands of people give their precious time to help make our community special, Residents Forward announces three extraordinary 2020 gala honorees that work day in and day out to improve the “5.6 square miles” Port Washingtonians call home.

Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Dawn Serignese and Jane Thomas will be honored during Residents Forward’s annual gala on Friday, March 13 at Leonard’s of Great Neck at 7:00 p.m. The entire community is invited to help celebrate these devoted individuals while also supporting Residents Forward’s work to improve the vibrancy, sustainability, resiliency and beauty of our peninsula.

Judi Bosworth knows that the Town of North Hempstead offers very unique and natural beauty. “I believe it is one of my most important obligations as a public servant to protect what we have, improve and restore what has been neglected and to preserve our environment for the future. Our miles of waterways and scenic shorelines make our Town a geographic and environmental wonder and we all have an obligation to care for it,” Supervisor Bosworth said. “I feel so fortunate that I am in a position that enables me to initiate change to protect and preserve our environment.” The hallmark of the Supervisor’s administration has been to deliver outstanding constituent services to each and every resident with special attention to the Town’s senior citizens and veterans and maintain a constant focus on protecting our local environment.

Having grown up in Port Washington, Dawn Serignese is a firm believer in giving back to the community in which she lives. She has served as President and Board member of the Parent Resource Center (PRC), volunteering as a teacher for several classes. Dawn is also a member of Residents Forward’s Board of Directors, where she co-chairs the Parks, Trails and Waterfront committee. Dawn has worked on many projects to protect, preserve and enhance Port Washington’s open space including Bay Walk, Visioning of North Hempstead Beach Park and the extension of the Hempstead Harbor trail. Her career as an associate real estate broker is particularly rewarding since she can show off Port Washington’s beautiful peninsula to newcomers.

A longtime resident of Port Washington, Jane Thomas has been involved in advocacy and volunteer work for several decades. She has volunteered with the League of Women Voters - Port Washington-Manhasset for 40 years, including seven years as Board President. Jane helped get the Town of North Hempstead’s recycling program up and running and spent three years advocating for the eventual passage of New York State’s Bottle Bill. She currently works with Water For Long Island, a group that focuses on resource management and protection of Long Island’s sole source aquifer.
