ICYMI: Port Washington Parking District to Go Paperless
A new form of technology is replacing regular parking stickers in Port Washington.

Frequenters of the Port Washington Parking District will soon join the paperless revolution.
The Town’s Parking District will be provided with a paperless parking permit system through an agreement with Gtechna USA and the Town of North Hempstead.
Instead of receiving decals or stickers for their vehicles, resident who purchase permits will use a license plate recognition system that reads the cars’ license plates to check whether the vehicles are properly registered.

“This new initiative will allow Port Washington Parking District residents to acquire their permits and vouchers online from anywhere at any time,” Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said in a press release. “Not only will this be more convenient for our residents, but it will also save our taxpayers money.”
This paperless system will save the Parking District more than $150,000 over a span of 10 years.

“I look forward to using ground-breaking technology to further assist in resolving parking issues throughout my District,” Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio said.
The new program is expected to start around the beginning of 2016.
If residents cannot access a computer, they can come to the Parking District office and an employee will help them learn how to use the Gtechna website to purchase a permit or a voucher. Electric vehicles will receive parking rate incentives.
