PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Work is underway to add another mile of trail to the popular Hempstead Harbor Shoreline Trail. With the addition, the trail with waterfront views on the eastern side of Port Washington will stretch nearly 2 miles in length.

The trail currently runs from North Hempstead Beach Park south to the area of West Shore Road. It will be extended along the shoreline and end near Harbor Park Drive South. The town estimates the extension will be completed by the end of this year. The beginning of the trail will remain open to the public during construction.

Judi Bosworth, the town supervisor, called the trail a "destination" for anyone who enjoys nature and beautiful scenery. Long term, the trail could connect to downtown Roslyn and continue up to Glenwood Landing.
