International Film Festival Continues at PWPL

The Library's International Film Festival continues during the week leading up to the World Festival on the afternoon of Sunday, March 30 at the Port Washington Public Library and Landmark on Main Street.  These films are from Colombia, France, Hungary, and South Africa - read about them here - 

Monday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m.
La Sirga (The Tow Rope) (2012-88 min.). Colombian refugee Alicia (Joghis Seudin Arias) tries to rebuild her life at a guesthouse on the shores of a great lake in the Andes. William Vega scripted and directed. Also, Vega’s short film Simiente (2010-14 min.), the inspiration for La Sirga. In Spanish with English subtitles. A Film Movement release.

Tuesday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m.
Key of Life (Kagi-Dorobo No Mesoddo) (2012-128 min.). Struggling actor Sakurai (Masato Sakai) switches identities with stranger Kondo (Teruyuki Kagawa) at a bath house, only to find himself filling the shoes of an elite assassin. Kenji Uchida scripted and directed. Also, two well-dressed men head off on a mysterious assignment in writer/director Balazs Simonyi’s Hungarian short, Finale (2011-8 min.). A Film Movement release.

Wednesday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m.
Lucky (2011-104 min.). Ten-year-old South African orphan Lucky (Sihle Dlamini) leaves his Zulu village to make his own life in the city. Avie Luthra scripted and directed. Also, Luthra’s short version of Lucky (2005-20 min.). In Zulu, English and Hindi with English subtitles. A Film Movement release.

Friday, March 28 at 7:30 pm.
Tales of the Night (2011-84 min.). French animator Michel Ocelot weaves together six exotic fables, each unfolding in a unique locale, from Tibet, to medieval Europe, to the Land of the Dead. In French with English subtitles. A New Video release.

Monday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m.
Three Worlds (Trois Mondes) (2012-100 min.). A hit-and-run accident results in the death of an illegal foreigner. The three men riding in the vehicle vow to keep silent, but a female witness tracks down the driver and the wife of the deceased. Raphael Personnaz, Clotilde Hesme, Arta Debroshi and Reda Kateb star in this drama from writer/director Catherine Corsini and co-author Benoit Graffin. In French with English subtitles. Also, a piano tuner pretends to be blind in Olivier Treiner’s short, The Piano Tuner (2010-14 min.).
