Landmark on Main Street Gets $8.5M Makeover
The building and all of its programs will continue during the construction period.
Landmark on Main Street is getting a makeover thanks to a $8.5 million refinancing deal.
The renovation work is expected to start this month on the historic structure that houses 59 low-income senior apartments and a community center.
The building will undergo construction for one year. Landmark will be wrapped in scaffolding, all of the windows and roofing will be replaced, the façade will be re-pointed and trim painted and the apartments will be improved with new bathrooms and updated kitchens.

“This is another milestone for Landmark,” Bob Schanzer, president of Landmark on Main Street, LLC, said in a statement. “With the refinancing, we can improve the building for the benefit of the community, the senior residents, and the non-profit organizations housed there, and put the property on sound financial footing for years to come.”
The Landmark building, the former home of the Main Street School, was completely renovated in 1995 thanks to a group of dedicated Port Washington residents. The building now approaches its 20-year anniversary.

Landmark is also home to Landmark on Main Street Inc., which operates the Jeanne Rimksy Theater, the Port Washington Children’s Center, The Parent Resource Center and the Port Washington Teen Center.
The building and all of its programs will continue during the construction period.
