Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton Celebrates Winter Birthdays At Senior Center.
Celebrating birthdays is a new tradition of Leg. DeRiggi-Whitton's at the Port Washington Senior Citizens Center.
A new tradition began in January at the Port Washington Senior Citizens Center, thanks to Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton. She visited the Center with long stem white roses to give to senior members who celebrated birthdays in January. Intended to be a monthly event, because of the harsh winter, February and March birthdays were combined for the celebration that took place on March 12.
Eight February and March birthday babies were present, including Leg. DeRiggi-Whitton. (Although she’s not a senior citizen, she was included in the festivities.) She asked senior members what they were thankful for and then gave them each a beautiful long stem pink and white rose.
Jean Coggan said she is thankful to think about something happy every day. Peter Graven is thankful that, since his birthday falls on the first day of spring, it is always beautiful. Jackie Loze is thankful every day, especially to wake up every day. Dolores Holliday (who is also the Director of the Center) said she is thankful for God’s blessings for everyone and said to always be nice to people. Claire Brady hopes everyone stays happy and healthy. Jackie Schwartz says she was a cute baby. Amelia Gutierrez was happy to be celebrating her birthday with everyone. Everyone at the Center then sang “Happy Birthday” to the celebrants.
