Man Advertised Kings Point Cottage on Craigslist, Posed as Realtor: Police

A 28-year-old female victim responded to the listing and was scammed out of over $2,000, police said.

KINGS POINT, NY - A Brooklyn man was arrested Saturday for grand larceny after police say he posed as a real estate agent and stole from a 28-year-old female victim.

According to police, the victim responded to an ad on Craigslist for a cottage to rent. The victim met with 33-year-old James Cadet in April 2015 and gave him three money orders totaling over $2,000, police said.

The victim attempted to move in to the cottage in may 2015 but was unable to gain access to the cottage, police said. After contacting the listing agent, the victim was told Cadet was not employed by the agency.
