Water Surface Temp. at Execution Rock: 65 (deg. F)
NOTE: The gnats are here! Wednesday I was fishing along the shoreline I was eaten alive! The little devils are out and hungry. Bring your bug repellent with you.
General report – Warm temps this week have finally brought the water temps up. The surface is 65 and the bottom is 60 degrees. Perfect fishing temperatures. The warmer water temperatures have also brought out a lot of jellyfish. Weather looks to be nice and clear for the weekend. Tides are excellent for early AM and sunset fishing this weekend.
Fly fishing – The water has gotten a bit murky so use some bright colors. Flies tied with the new UV bright materials greatly increase the visibility of your flies in murky and low light conditions. All the fish have been coughing up shrimp. If you aren’t having success with your normal flies try a shrimp pattern.

Fluke – Fluking has been good all over. High-low rigs with spearing and a gulp swimming mullet or minnow grub have been the ticket. Plum point and the Sands Point side of the mouth of Hempstead Harbor have been good. Again I have been getting reports of fluke caught with lots of shrimp in their bellies. Gulp makes a mantis shrimp bait that could be a real killer….
Stripers – This week was hit or miss for stripers. Again Hempstead Harbor has been producing some big fish. Big fish have also been caught in the Sound off Matinnecock. Chum and bunker chunks have been the ticket.

Bluefish – Still nothing on blues in the Bay. I have been getting reports of the occasional mangled rig or line cut clean through.
Porgy fishing – Clams and sandworms have been bringing in some good size porgies around Davids Island.
Fisherman’s tip: Be careful when you apply bug repellant, it will ruin your fishing line. Apply it away from your gear and make sure to wipe it off your hands before handing your gear. Don’t believe me? Try spraying some on a piece of mono and see what happens!
