Manorhaven Food Drive Helps Families in Need
Residents of Manorhaven and the greater Port Washington community donated non-perishables at Village Hall on Saturday, May 30.
Run by the Board of Trustees and staff of the Village, donations were accepted between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Families in need were then offered a box or bag of items to bring home. The remaining donations were delivered to Our Lady of Fatima Outreach Center, and St. Peter's Food Pantry, which have been inundated with requests for food and other needed items during the COVID-19 quarantine that has left many families without incomes.
“It was so heartwarming to see such a tremendous outpouring of generosity from our community,” Mayor Jim Avena said. “To be able to help families in need at this tough time is very rewarding and I thank all donors as well as the Village staff and Board for helping with this food drive. Village residents Barbara Faticone and Trustee Rita Di Lucia helped with the food drive and presented Fatima’s Outreach Center with 12 $20 Stop & Shop gift cards to give to needy families on behalf of the Knights of Columbus’s and Columbiettes. Aside from Mayor Avena and Trustee Di Lucia, Trustee John Popeleski, Village Clerk Sharon Abramski, Deputy Clerk Alex Kovacevic and Complaint Investigator Lori Vlahos helped with the food drive.
Non-perishable food donations are welcome throughout the year to Our Lady of Fatima Outreach Center, St. Peter’s Food Pantry and Littig House Community Center.
