May is Building Safety Month in N. Hempstead

The Town of North Hempstead and the Town Board recently honored code enforcement and safety officials to get ready for Building Safety Month, which will be celebrated during the month of May.
What is Building Safety Month? This month-long celebration looks to spread awareness to help people, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures.
To kickstart the celebration, the following Town employees received proclamations for their hard work towards enforcing and applying building safety regulations:

- Vincent J. McManus, Division Supervisor Nassau County Fire Marshals – Fire Inspection Bureau (Special Facilities Division)
- Stephen N. Haramis, President of Building Inspectors Association of Nassau County (BIANCO)
Building Safety Month, created by the International Code Council, reinforces the need for adoption of modern, model building codes, a strong and efficient system of code enforcement and a well-trained, professional workforce to maintain the system, according to the Town.
- In honor of Building Safety Month, the Town is offering a coupon to get 30 percent off any Kidde brand smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector. The coupon can be found at the Building Department, located at 210 Plandome Road in Manhasset.
“Addressing resiliency and innovation in the built environment while promoting public awareness and individual involvement all contribute to safer and more affordable communities,” Dorothy Harris, Vice President of State & Local Government Relations with the ICC said in a press release.
