May W. Newburger Women's Roll of Honor Set for March 16

Thirteen women living in North Hempstead will be honored this month for the 23rd Annual May W. Newburger Women’s Roll of Honor, in celebration of Women’s History Month.

This year’s breakfast will take place on Wednesday, March 16 from 8-10 a.m. at the Clubhouse at Harbor Links in Port Washington.

“I am proud to honor these outstanding women for their great contributions to North Hempstead,” Town Clerk Wayne Wink said in a press release. “Each of these women reflects the best that our communities have to offer and they deserve to be recognized for their efforts.”

The 2016 honorees are:

  • Jackie Caines – Westbury
  • Mary Campbell – Westbury
  • Isma Chaudhry – Manhasset
  • Lauren Furst- Roslyn Heights
  • Mary Frances Jeffrey – Plandome Heights
  • Alice Kasten – Great Neck
  • Susan Lopatkin – Great Neck
  • Annette Oestreich – Sands Point
  • Elizabeth Parrella – Manhasset
  • Ellen Ritz – East Williston
  • Heather Schwartz – Roslyn Heights
  • Lori Beth Schwartz – Great Neck
  • Karen Sloan – Port Washington

North Hempstead’s Women’s Roll of Honor breakfast has been held since 1994 to honor women who have made a contribution to their community, or have accomplished a significant achievement through public or private efforts.

As per tradition, North Hempstead resident Shirley Romaine will recite an inspirational message at the breakfast.

The event is free and seating is available on a first come, first serve basis.

“For 23 years, North Hempstead has recognized inspirational women who are trailblazers in their local communities. Each of our honorees have gone above and beyond and truly made a difference in their neighborhood,” Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said. “We are fortunate to call these honorees part of our North Hempstead family.”
