Military and Seniors Enjoy Girl Scout Cookies
The Dejana Foundation donated $5,000 to distribute Girl Scout cookies to members of the military and senior citizens.
Operation Cookie is a big part of The Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s (GSNC) Girl Scout Cookie Program. Each year, Girl Scouts and their cookie customers donate cookies to the military, providing them with that special “taste of home” while serving our country.
Girl Scout representatives recently approached Jim Avena, Grant Administrator of The Peter & Jeri Dejana Family Foundation asking if the Foundation would like to participate in the program. “When I was approached by the Girl Scouts, I said ‘yes’ immediately. It is such an honor to help the Girl Scouts give our brave military members even more cookies to enjoy,” Avena said. “Hundreds of cases of cookies should keep them satisfied for quite a while!” The Dejana Foundation donation included enough funding to also distribute over 100 boxes of Cookies to members of the Port Washington Adult Activities Center (PWAAC) recently. The seniors enjoyed selecting their childhood favorite flavors and trying new ones, too.
Over the past 14 years, with the support of Cookie customers, more than 771,000 packages of Girl Scout Cookies have been donated to the military. “With the help of Cookie Sponsors like the Dejana Foundation and their generous donation of $5,000, we are able to send Girl Scout Cookies to servicemen and women serving our country overseas,” GSNC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rande Bynum said. “These Cookies are also distributed to military bases in U.S., including many local units in the Tri-State area. We thank the Dejana Foundation for helping us to deliver even more cookies to members of our military!”
