EAST HILLS, NY — East Hill's Sid Jacobson JCC hosted its annual Day of Service on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In partnership with Rise Against Hunger, 12,500 meals were made by 300 volunteers.

Volunteer Services Supervisor Lisa Lipstein said she hopes the event made a difference in someone's life. Sid Jacobson JCC's goal is to support those who are confronted with hunger. The Nikki Schwartz Memorial Community Needs Bank is their food pantry, available to those who need it.

"MLK Day of Service reminds us that there’s always a right time to do what is right," Lipstein said. "At a moment when so many people are looking for ways to do good, this day brings our community together to make a real difference for neighbors in need."

She added that it was inspiring to see so many people come together to support each other.

"One of the most powerful parts of the day is seeing people from different backgrounds, cultures, and faiths working side by side," she said. "It shows how much we truly have in common."

The Long Island community is tight-knit, and Lipstein said it showed.

"MLK Day of Service is about not forgetting your neighbor," she said. "Whether the help is big or small, choosing to give where you can is how real change begins."
