N. Hempstead Tax Office Temporarily Suspends In-Person Services

NORTH HEMPSTEAD, NY—Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman, and the town board recently announced that the tax office has temporarily suspended in-person services to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Residents are asked to make tax payments through the online payment system or through mail. Additionally, there will be no local community tax collection sites this spring, town officials said.

Residents may pay online (fees apply) by visiting: northhempsteadny.gov/tax-payments.

Accepted forms of payment include electronic ACH check or American Express, Mastercard or Visa. New York State law mandates that the town receives no portion of the service fee – the fee is retained by the payment processing vendors.

The online credit card payment processing fee is 2.35 percent of the tax amount. The ACH check fee is two dollars. Residents who are making payment by mail should include the remittance stub(s) with their check or money order in the return envelope.

They are also asked to write their bill number(s) on the check(s), include the payment stub, and make checks payable to: Charles Berman, Receiver of Taxes and mail to the Receiver of Taxes at 200 Plandome Road, Manhasset, NY 11030.

The town has also requested Gov. Cuomo to extend the deadline to pay the second half 2019-2020 School property tax deadline past May 11 and are currently awaiting the decision.
