Nassau DA Election: Singas, McQuade To Attend Sands Point Forum
Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas, a Democrat, and Republican challenger Frank McQuade will attend a forum in Sands Point this week.

SANDS POINT, NY — A forum is planned this week in Sands Point featuring the two candidates for Nassau County district attorney.
Madeline Singas, the incumbent Democrat, and Republican challenger Frank McQuade, of Long Beach, will attend the forum Tuesday evening. The event, presented by the county chapter of the League of Women Voters, will begin at 7 p.m. at Castle Gould on 127 Middle Neck Rd.
The audience will ask the candidates questions, organizers told Patch on Tuesday. Both candidates will answer each question, which are vetted beforehand to ensure they aren't asked twice and are appropriate for both candidates to answer.

The event will be recorded and posted on LWVOfNassauCounty.org this week.
Singas, of Manhasset, seeks a second four-year term after defeating Kate Murray, the former Hempstead Town Supervisor, in 2015. In a Patch questionnaire, she noted crime is at "record lows," falling more than 25 percent over her first term. Fatal drug overdoses also fell more than 20 percent.

"As district attorney, I have cracked down on dealers, implemented innovative educational programs in our schools and dedicated unprecedented resources to prevent addiction and provide treatment," she said.
McQuade, in response to the same questionnaire, questioned some of Singas' decisions as the county's top law enforcement official. Singas has been "overly lenient" on child abuse cases involving teachers, McQuade said. He also accused her of politicizing the office and being inconsistent in investigating political corruption.
