Chabad is partnering with Garden City-based Island Garden Basketball and West Hempstead-based FE Basketball Solutions. Together, they are offering a new competitive youth travel basketball program at Chabad.
This program will field travel teams in the 3rd-8th grade boys divisions. FE Basketball Solutions will provide the training and coaching, and supervise the entire program. Skills-training takes place in September and October, and then the boys will be placed in teams based on age and ability. They will be entered to play in the Island Garden SuperLeague for the winter season. The skills development clinic will run from 4-5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, excluding holidays, ending in late November. The curriculum: proper footwork, mechanics of shooting, passing, ball handling techniques, and defensive play.
In early October, teams will be formed and rosters finalized for the Chabad of Port Washington teams. The children will be evaluated by FE Basketball Solution professional coaches and placed on teams according to their level.
“Tryouts will be used for evaluation and placement rather than weeding out the least skilled children,” Rabbi Paltiel of the Chabad of Port Washington said, in a press release.
Paltiel appointed local residents Brad and Mira Bernstein to oversee this program on Chabad’s behalf.
“The goal is to place every child on an appropriate team playing against other children of similar ability,” Brad Bernstein noted.
The schedule for attending the fall clinic will be based on age and ability. Starting November, teams will play a 15-game schedule and attend practice once a week. Get more information here.
