North Hempstead Honors Lives Lost During 9/11 Memorial Ceremony

The ceremony honored the 56 members of the community whose lives were lost that day.

The Town of North Hempstead came together on Sunday to honor those who lost their lives 15 years ago on Sept. 11, 2001.

Among the 2,997 lives that were lost that day were 56 members of the North Hempstead community.

The memorial ceremony, held at Mary Jane Davies Green in Manhasset, featured remarks from local spiritual leaders: Reverend Dr. Charles R. Vogeley of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior of Port Washington, Dr. Isma Chaudhry of the Islamic Center of Long Island, Elder George Teachey of the First Baptist Cathedral of Westbury and Reverend Dr. Steven D. Pierce of the Community Reformed Church of Manhasset.

The ceremony included a Presentation of the Colors, Rifle Salute and Playing of the Taps by Albertson VFW Post 5253.

Corey McCluskey of Manhasset played the bagpipes and the ceremony featured musical performances by the Uniondale High School Show Choir “Rhythm of the Night” and Myra Lamonier.

Also in attendance were elected officials including,Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Town Clerk Wayne Wink and the Town Board.
