North Hempstead Hosts Virtual Thanksgiving Celebration
The gathering was held for members of the Project Independence advisory committees.

North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Council Members Viviana Russell and Lee Seeman, along with the Town’s Project Independence (PI) team were proud to host a virtual Thanksgiving celebration on Wednesday, November 18. The gathering was held for members of the PI advisory committees.

The theme of the event was “Thoughts of Gratitude,” and the virtual meeting brought together members from across the Town to share Thanksgiving stories, traditions, and memories.
Project Independence was created in 2009 as an aging-in-place program for the Town’s nearly 60,000 residents over 60. To date, it has answered more than 265,000 service requests and taken approximately 325,000 requests for rides to food shopping and medical trips. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, 275 new members have signed up to be a part of Project Independence. There are currently more than 15,000 registered Project Independence members.
