North Shore University Hospital Renovation Diverts Traffic
The main entrance to the Manhasset hospital is undergoing an eight-month renovation. Visitors will have to use different routes.

MANHASSET, NY â Patients and visitors at North Shore University Hospital are about to see some changes.
The main entrance to the hospital on Community Drive in Manhasset is undergoing an eight-month, $12 million renovation, and construction will force visitors to use different routes beginning this month.
The main hospital entrance will stay open, but visitors will be diverted through a smaller, temporary entrance until early next year. Valet parking will remain available in the lobby circle, available through entrance No. 3 off Community Drive, the hospital said in a news release. The parking garage will not be affected and is located at the same entrance.

Meanwhile, visitors to the emergency department will also use a different entrance. Ambulances will be the only vehicles allowed to enter the grounds through entrance No. 2, the hospital said. Visitors should use entrance No. 1 on the north side of the building and use complementary valet parking.
Jon Sendach, FACHE, deputy executive director at the hospital, said the currant main entrance was built nearly three decades ago and doesn't provide enough space for arriving guests. The larger space will offer a caregiving center in the main lobby to support people who provide daily home-care and long-term support for loved ones.
