Oct. 10: Columbus Day, Dog Lovers Day And An Essay Contest

3. It's TJ Day for Dog Lovers at . That's where TJ Shields is celebrating being named October "Mutt of the Month" in the 2011 365 Dogs, Page-a-Day Calendar. Stop by Shields and meet TJ along with The Shelter Connection, the volunteer group that supports shelter improvements at the . There will be a fundraiser, photos and more.

5.  Enter  "Spookiest, Scariest Essay Contest." Open to children from pre-K to 8th grade. Winners in each age category receive $15 prizes.
