Port Summer Show to Present 'Shrek the Musical'

Auditions in May; parent informational meeting April 29.

This year’s Port Summer Show is "Shrek the Musical," with music written by Port Washington’s own Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire.

Based on the 2001 DreamWorks film “Shrek” and William Steig's 1990 book “Shrek!,”  the musical features a grumpy ogre, sassy princess, talking donkey and a host of storybook characters.

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, May 14, and Monday, May 20, at Schreiber High School from 6:45pm -9pm, with call backs on Tuesday, May 28, at Sousa Elementary from 6:45pm-10pm. Jason Summers will return as Port Summer Show's director.

Port Washington students entering 7th grade through this year’s High School graduating class, are encouraged to audition for this fun, family show.

Interested in auditioning? Come prepared with shoes to dance in and sheet music or karaoke on cd or i-pod for your audition song. Those new to Port Summer Show can sing a simple song like Happy Birthday without accompaniment.

Organizers behind the Port Summer Show say they are excited to be one of the first theater groups to perform this "enchanting" show since it closed on Broadway in 2010.

Those with questions can contact Co-presidents Susan Hoffman at 883-5051 or Elise May at 883-2569. For more information, like Port Summer Show on Facebook, or visit the show’s website

There will be an informational meeting for parents on Monday, April 29, in the Faculty Cafeteria at Schreiber at 7:00 p.m.
