Port Washington Children’s Center Hosts Another Successful Summer Day Camp

Campers had another fun-filled and unforgettable summer at Port Washington Children's Center's Port Day Camp

Campers had another fun-filled and unforgettable summer at Port Washington Children’s Center’s Port Day Camp (PDC), where they spent their days laughing, playing, making new friends, and reconnecting with old ones. From exciting daily activities to special events and friendly competitions, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

“As the summer comes to a close, we look back on a season filled with friendship, creativity, learning, laughter, and adventure,” said Christine Paige, the Executive Director of the Port Washington Children’s Center. “It truly was an amazing summer at Port Day Camp, and we look forward to welcoming our campers back for another fantastic summer next year!”

Each day brought new opportunities for campers to learn, create, and have fun. In Music, Drama, and Dance, campers sang favorites such as the “Bumble Bee Song,” played bucket drums, learned the PDC camp song, embarked on a musical “Bear Hunt,” and enjoyed freeze dance. They explored different styles of dance, wrote and performed their own scenes, and created entertaining puppet skits.

Science and STEAM were especially popular, giving campers the opportunity to get creative while learning. They built climbing robots, launched rockets, created pickleball rackets, made slime and galaxy jars, and experimented with magic crystals.

Yoga gave campers and staff a chance to slow down, relax, and recharge while learning poses such as Mountain, Downward-Facing Dog, Child’s Pose, Warrior, Tree, and Cobra. After practicing their poses, campers had fun with yoga games including Rock, Tree, and Bridge.

Art provided another opportunity for campers to express their creativity. Campers designed 3-D nameplates, sculpted clay animals, painted and drew pictures, and created special picture frames for their group photos.

PDC’s athletic campers were always ready for action during Sports and Games, where they enjoyed kickball, basketball, Minion Tag, Pins Down, and soccer. Taekwondo was also part of the summer experience, teaching campers valuable lessons in self-defense, discipline, perseverance, and hard work.

Of course, summer at PDC would not be complete without water activities! Campers enjoyed swimming, paddleboarding, and a variety of water games. At the pool, they had opportunities for both free swim and lessons taught by our WSI-certified swim instructor.

Throughout the summer, campers were treated to exciting weekly shows and special presentations, including magicians, bubble parties, juggling acts, science demonstrations, and even a game-show-style competition that gave campers the chance to participate and show off their skills.

The highlight of the summer was undoubtedly the PDC Color Olympics. Campers were divided into two teams and competed in a week-long competition led by our talented specialists. The excitement continued with whole-camp activities, including a scavenger hunt, PDC Relay, Bucket Brigade, and team cheers. The Color Olympics brought the entire camp together, creating countless memorable moments filled with laughter, camaraderie, and team spirit.

As one summer comes to a close, planning is already underway for another exciting season at Port Day Camp. PDC is currently offering its Early Bird Registration promotion for Summer 2027. Families can lock in this year’s tuition rate and save more than $500 per camper by registering by August 31. Tuition is $3,600, with a $1,000 deposit.
