Port Washington Diner Reopens With New Upgrades, Homemade Muffins
The Haven Diner on Haven Avenue has reopened. The new owner said he wanted to give the community an old-school, family diner experience.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — After closing for more than two weeks, the Haven Diner in Port Washington is back in business with new food options and new seats.
Alex Molina, of Levittown, told Patch on Friday his family bought the restaurant on the corner of Main Street and Haven Avenue about a month ago. He declined to disclose the price of the restaurant, which will keep its name.
Molina wanted to chase the "American dream" and said he hopes to give the community an old-school, family-run diner like he used to eat at after church as a kid.

"Right now, we don't have those kinds of places anymore," he said. "We don't have old family diners."
After renovating the joint for about 2 1/2 weeks, upgrading lighting fixtures, ovens, grills and benches, he's offering a new diner menu with pasta, steak and seafood options and plans to stay open late.

Among the offerings: a breakfast special for $8.95 that includes two eggs any style with choice of bacon, ham or sausage, as well as juice and coffee or tea. Coffee costs just $1.60.
"We're doing homemade baked muffins and cakes," he said.
This includes blueberry and corn muffins, and carrot and coconut cakes. Apple and cherry pies are also on the menu for those looking for something sweet.
The joint also has two big-screen TVs and offers free Wi-Fi for customers, Molina said.
The restaurant, which reopened Aug. 19, is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., but stays open an hour or two later Fridays and Saturdays depending on how busy it gets.
