Port Washington Library Foundation Gala Set For September 26
12th Inspiration Gala honors dedicated community members
The Port Washington Library Foundation’s Twelfth Inspiration Gala, “A Novel Affair,” honors four very special community members and supports the important work of the Library Foundation. This year’s Elaine and Leonard Wurzel Community Service Award will be presented to Jane and Marty Schwartz. The Community Leadership award will be given to Judy and Ted Goldsmith.
Opting to go green this year, the Foundation will produce a paperless Gala e-journal. Full-color e-journal ads will appear on screens during the gala and remain visible on the event site all year post-event. To highlight philanthropic support, business ads will be linked to corporate websites. And, there will be no wasted resources. A win-win for all involved! The Library Foundation has funded numerous projects and programs over the years and is currently involved in its most ambitious project to date: the complete renovation and expansion of the newly named Jackie and Hal Spielman Children’s Library. Additionally, the Library Foundation has supported lighting and sound systems in the Lapham Meeting Room, Tepper Intergenerational museum trips, Books for Dessert—a book club for adults with intellectual disabilities, the Parent-Child Home Program, the Jobs and Careers Center, the local history collection archivist, the Joan and Arnold Saltzman Reading Room, and annual funding for the Library Advisory Councils—Art, Music, Children’s, Nautical, and Health. Established in 1989, the Foundation has given the library more than $1,600,000 in private funds for additional programming, advanced technology, new initiatives, and upgrades of the library building and grounds.
