Port Washington Looks to Increase Parking Fees
Residents are invited to discuss the new parking fee plans at a Town Board meeting Tuesday night.

Port Washington Parking District parking rates are expected to increase following a hearing at the North Hempstead Town Board meeting Tuesday night.
This parking plan would increase the following parking rates:
- Daily parking vouchers would increase from $1 to $2
- Monthly parking vouchers would increase from $20 to $30
- Parking meter rates would increase from .25 cents per hour to .25 cents per half hour
This topic will be the first thing on the agenda at the meeting, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Residents will be able to speak at the meeting and voice their opinions on the issue.
The Town says they hope these changes will encourage more residents to purchase the annual parking pass for $240.

Parking fees in Port Washington have not been raised in approximately 15 years, according to the Town.
These new fees would keep Port Washington in line with other parking districts on Long Island.
Here is a list of other hourly parking meter rates on Long Island for comparison:
- Village of Bellerose— .50 cents per hour
- Village of Great Neck Plaza— .50 cents per hour
- Town of Oyster Bay— .10 cents per hour
- Town of Huntington— .50 cents per hour
- City of Long Beach— .50 cents per hour
- Village of Mineola— .50 cents per hour
- Village of New Hyde Park— .50 cents per hour
- Village of Roslyn Harbor— .50 cents per hour
- Village of Roslyn— .50 cents per hour
- Village of Port Jefferson— .50 cents per hour
The fee for registering cars, which is separate from the annual parking fee, would also change to:
- $25 for the first car
- $45 for the second car
- $150 for the third car
