One of Port Washington’s initiatives was the Pedestrian Education Enforcement and Traffic Solutions (PEETS) program, which was designed to educate pedestrians on basic traffic safety rules. Results through PEETS have shown that pedestrian awareness has increased and vehicular traffic has slowed in the targeted locations. The program was created by Traffic Safety Enforcement Unit Police Officer Tracy Dioguardi.

At the ceremony, held at the Carltun in East Meadow, the local AAA affiliate presented a total of 46 awards.
