Port Washington’s Substance Abuse Task Force Secures $20K Grant

The funding will help teach students about the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of preventing bullying.

Port Washington School District recently secured $20,000 in state funding to support its Substance Abuse Task Force.

The task force will use the grant for programs that will teach students about the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of preventing bullying.

“The Port Washington School District has been a proactive leader in combating these two significant threats to children’s safety,” Senator Jack M. Martins, who helped secure the funding, said in a press release. “These state funds will help the District’s Safety and Substance Abuse Task Force continue to present interactive programs that teach children how to prevent bullying and the importance of saying ‘no’ to drugs.”

The Safety and Substance Abuse Task Force enforces a safe and drug free learning environment that supports academic achievement. The task force relies on district and outside funding to promote initiatives.

“We are very pleased that Senator Martins has selected the Port Washington School District as a recipient of the $20,000 grant,” Port Washington School District Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Mooney said. “This money will enable the Task Force to continue its mission of implementing comprehensive school and community programs fostering a safe and drug-free learning environment.”
