Port Washington Sewage Worker Knocked Unconscious 40 Feet Underground

Rescue teams used ropes and hauling equipment to pull the man from the hole Tuesday.

Several rescue teams helped hoist a Port Washington sewage district worker out of a hole after the man hit his head and lost consciousness 40 feet below ground level on Tuesday at 6 p.m., fire officials said.

According to Port Washington fire officials, the employee suffered a head injury while he was working in the basement of a Port Washington Water Pollution Control District pump station, located on Port Washington Boulevard.

The Nassau County technical rescue matrix was activated and technical rescue teams from Port Washington, Manhasset, Bethpage and Massapequa responded to the scene.

The rescue teams used ropes and hauling equipment to pull the man from the hole. He was brought to ground level in less than 50 minutes from the time of the alarm.

The worker was then taken to North Shore Hospital by Port Washington Fire Department Ambulance.

No other injuries were reported.
