Sixteen of our wonderful local restaurants and markets will be donating their best soups for the contest and hope to be voted Port Washington’s 2020 SOUPer Bowl Champ. This year’s soups range from a tasty Chicken Tortilla soup to a hearty Seafood Gumbo.
Visitors pay an admission fee and are given a hand stamp and a ballot. The hand stamp allows them to sample two ounces of each of the soups donated by the restaurants. The restaurants also provide bread and crackers for the tasters. After trying all the soups, everyone gets to vote for their favorites. When the ballots are tallied, the 2020 SOUPer Bowl Champ is determined. The winner will receive the “People’s Choice Award.” A “Kids’ Choice Award” will be determined by tasters under 12 years old!

Before SOUPer Bowl opens to the public, a panel of judges will taste the soups and rate them based on many different qualities. The select Judges’ Panel includes local celebrities and gourmets. This year’s panel includes award winning sports anchor Len Berman; Consultant Christine Sanchez (former right hand to Bobby Flay, including working on Iron Chef America and being part of his B-Team. Currently Christine heads up relish consulting, a culinary consulting and instruction business); Mat Lanfant, a local chef and owner of The Cooking Lab; gourmet Anne Arter from Commissioner Sponsor Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty; gourmet Joseph Canigiani from Commissioner Sponsor Joseph N. Canigiani, Inc. and Aubrie Westmaas, a deaf-blind client from the Helen Keller National Center. The winner, as determined by a vote of the panel, is given the prestigious “Judges’ Choice Award.”
