Port Washington Water District Awards First Rebate for Smart Irrigation Controller Incentive Program
$150 Rebate Issued to Residents Committed to Water Conservation

The Port Washington Water District (PWWD) recently awarded a $150 rebate check to its first participant of the District’s smart irrigation controller incentive program. The incentive program is part of the District’s Be Smart and Green, Save 15 water conservation campaign and was created to incentivize the wide-spread adoption of smart irrigation controllers. The wider utilization of smart irrigation controllers is a key factor to reducing irrigation water usage—the main contributor to spiking water demand—between the months of May and September.
“We’re excited to see that an increasing number of our residents are looking to take advantage of this rebate program and have smart irrigation controllers installed at their homes,” said Chairman of the PWWD Board David Brackett. “Like with any new piece of technology, there is a slow progression of adoption and smart controllers are no different. Through the rebate program, we hope to bring the early adopters out of the woodwork quicker and become our greatest advocates in promoting the benefits and cost savings this technology provides.”
Mitchell Rosen, a Port Washington resident and customer of the PWWD, was the first person to take advantage of the District’s incentive program. As someone who understands the importance of water conservation and how this technology plays a major role, Mr. Rosen contacted the District immediately after learning about the program.

“I’m proud to be doing my part to conserve water and glad to be contributing to the Be Smart and Green, Save 15 campaign in a meaningful way,” said Mitchell Rosen. “We only have one source of water on Long Island so it’s important for everyone to do their part and ensure it remains sustainable for the future.”
The District still has several rebates available and encourages its residents to take advantage of this opportunity.
