The Port Washington Water District Warns Residents of a Potential “Water Testing” Scam

Residents need to be cautious of free water testing offers

The Port Washington Water District has learned of a recent water testing scam and warns residents to be suspicious of any company offering “free” water testing. The Board of Commissioners strongly advises residents these tests generally do not follow the strict New York State, Nassau County or local water district standards

“We have strict quality-control measures in place to ensure the safety and integrity of our water supply,” said David Brackett, Chairman of the Port Washington Water District’s Board of Commissioners. “Our primary goal is to provide the community with pure, safe, potable tap water. Consumers should always remember if something sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.”

The Port Washington Water District spends more than $135,000 annually to test the drinking water at its source and throughout the system using sophisticated state-of-the-art equipment. To further ensure the quality of residents’ drinking water, the Nassau County Health Department performs independent water quality checks regularly throughout the District.
